Food.
It goes without saying that almost all of us could do a better job with what, how and why we eat. But, why is it so important for those who are in recovery or who are sober already?
The food that you put into your body, ultimately nourishes the entire self.
Part of what makes addiction so damaging to the whole body is that it typically causes people to neglect making healthy choices elsewhere in their lives. Getting started on improving your health with nutrition can be a daunting task however. Where do you even start?
Don’t worry!
We’ve broken it down into 5 easy steps that anyone can use to get started:

Your overall health is highly dependent on the foods that you put into your body. I talk about healthy eating in most of my courses because it’s essential that you eat foods that will help you feel better in order to combat whatever addiction you’re trying to beat.
Start a Nutrition Plan Today!
Your task for this week is going to be to research online what type of nutritional program you want to start and to pick one that you think will work best for you. This isn’t a weight loss course or a course that’s going to teach you how to gain muscle. This is about reaching your maximum potential when it comes to your physical health.
Are you Eating the Right Foods?
To do this, you’ll want to take a look at your own diet and understand where you can improve. For starters, look at things like; are you getting enough fruits and vegetables? Are you getting enough protein and fiber? You’ll want to eliminate as much processed food as possible. With that being said, you should come up with your own nutritional goals; this may be to lose a few pounds or to just generally eat better. There are thousands of plans to choose from.
Why Use a Nutrition Plan?
The reason I suggest sticking with a plan because if you’re like most people, it’s hard to know and understand how exactly to optimize your nutrition for better health. Following a plan makes it much easier.
My sister did the Paleo Method and I have a friend who tried Whole 30. Some people are interested in going gluten free or maybe vegetarian. Whatever you’ve wanted to do, this is the week to figure that out and do what it takes to start. You can start by signing up for an online membership, purchasing or renting a book from the library or whatever it is you need to start.
Whatever you do, just get started!
5 Actionable Steps you can Take:
1. Find a nutrition program
2. Gather items you will need to make this a success: food, books, etc.
3. Get rid of junk food in your home – (soda, cookies, candy, etc.)
4. Cook food at home (bye-bye takeout)
